We’re coming off of Gonerfest weekend here in the 901, where we got four days of nonstop punk and garage-influenced rock, with a little side of some folky country, and even free jazz.
You can still catch some highlights of the Gonerfest livestream on the Goner YouTube page. But if you still haven’t gotten enough, we have a music video from some early garage punkers on MVM.
The Unclaimed were founded in 1979 by Shelly Ganz. Their 1980 debut album put together 60s surf sounds, the then-fresh punk rock beats, and the chiming psych folk guitars of bands like The Byrds, and was an early document of the Los Angeles Paisley Underground scene.
“Now The Time Has Come” was co-written by Ganz and guitarist Patrick Cleary shortly before Ganz passed away. The song is the lead single from the group’s upcoming album, Never Said Goodbye, which features Cleary, bassist John Worley, and drummer Shaun Bryant.
The video was directed by SmiLee Gimwade and produced by Memphian Lauren Nicole Campbell. Grimwade used footage of the band preforming live in Seattle and mixed it with more footage the band took while on the road. Take a look:
