State Sen. Brent Taylor has acknowledged a report from the Nashville Scene that he sent nude photos to people who didn’t ask for them. Taylor is currently running for Congress as a Republican in the TN-9 district, which represents parts of Memphis.
Scene reporter Eli Motycka spoke with several sources who claimed to have received explicit photos from Taylor as recently as 2021. Taylor told the Scene these were “mistakes that have since been forgiven by his wife Kimberly.”
Brent and Kimberly Taylor have been married for 30 years.
“As I near 60 years old, the expiration date has come and gone on any of my youthful indiscretions,” Taylor told the Scene. “My god and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone else doing the same.”
The State Senator was 53 years old when the last confirmed photos were sent in 2021.
Rep. Justin J. Pearson, Taylor’s Democratic opponent, said in a statement, “Men of faith — let alone men who are married, in their fifties, and in public office — have no business sending unsolicited nude photos to women.”
“This news reflects very disturbing behavior from someone who has been married for 30 years, professes Christian values, and has held government office since 1995. Taylor’s belief that sending unwanted naked photos of himself to women at 53 years old is ‘youthful indiscretion’ is a ridiculous and dangerous mischaracterization of the type of predatory behavior that needs to be rooted out of our society and politics. Career politicians like him have been abusing their power and getting away with it for far too long. Tennessee deserves leaders who respect women — not those who sexually harass, expose their genitalia, or take advantage of them.”
In a statement to the Memphis Flyer, Taylor said, “Well, I guess this signals where we are in the campaign and who the frontrunner is with 7 days left until Election Day. I’m willing to acknowledge my past indiscretion. The frustrating part is that my wife now has to relive this nonsense we’ve already worked through years ago together and moved on from. Tennessee Niners aren’t concerned about my family or this type of past nonsense. They’re concerned about the prices they’re paying at the grocery store and gas station.”
