Two of my coworkers and I stopped by the newly opened Au Fond today for lunch.
Mike and I both opted for the pimento cheese sandwich. Very nice.

Hannah went for the burger, made with Donnell Century Farm beef. Hannah said the burger was perfectly cooked and the homemade ketchup of tomatoes and red peppers was excellent

The sandwiches average around $8, which is more than reasonable as portions are generous. Other lunch menu items included a charcuterie plate, a turkey hot brown, and fish and chips.
The market is still being stocked, but there were several breads for sale — from small baguettes for $1 to large loafs of whole grain bread for $6 — as well as cheeses, olives, a few bags of lettuce greens from Flora Farms, and more.

Au Fond, at 938 S. Cooper, is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

I guess I've been living in a cave, or, unbeknownst to me, Memphis has been moved to New York City (or vice versa), but when did 8 bucks for a sammich become "reasonable?" I think what may actually be reasonable is a food critic becoming jaded.
"reasonable as portions are generous." essentially two sandwiches for $8. which means $4 a serving + fries.
I've eaten there and I am not a food critic. Nor am I jaded. The food, service and atmosphere are all top notch. The prices are reasonable.
Oh yeah. It's not cave food.
First timer and I just had the burger there. Had to go wash it down immediately afterward with a soft drink to cut through the grease! It was over cooked yet dripping in nasty grease. For $10, the price was a bit steep and I definately would have prefered a grilled burger to a fried one. Not a home run and I probably won't go back there.
The last time I went to Au Fond, the food was excellent... the way the lunch service is setup, however, didn't seem like they were prepared for actual customers.
When the lunch crowd actually hits, the wait in line to order is long and getting the shared waiter to refill a water glass is hard.
