April's Garden

Posted by Susan Ellis on Thu, Jul 1, 2010 at 7:19 AM

April responded to my call for pictures of area vegetables gardens.

It's impressive.

April lives in East Memphis. Here's her description of the garden:

This is my third summer of growing vegetables in raised beds in my backyard. I grow with a mix of veggies I start from seed, usually bought from Seed Savers.org and then other items I pick up at local stores.

So far this year I have had the most success with green beans I started from seed.

I have planted Swiss chard, carrots, yellow zucchini, heirloom tomatoes, dwarf sugar snap peas, acorn squash, cucumbers, herbs, cantaloupe, okra and eggplant.

There are mini bell peppers too.

Plus roma tomatoes.

This year my biggest pest problem is Mexican bean beetles, I'm researching organic, non-chemical ways to get rid of them as they seem bent on destroying my bean bounty.

E-mail me details and pictures of your vegetable garden, and I'll post them at Hungry Memphis.

The exact same thing is happening to my beans. Have you had any success with getting rid of them?

My beans too! So, April still got beans from her plants despite the bug damage? I planted my seeds rather late and have lots of growth, but no beans...and I have identical bug damage to April's.
