Yesterday, I went to lunch with Pam Denney at the Presentation Room, the student-run restaurant at L'Ecole Culinaire.
Pam's working on a review for the November issue of Memphis magazine, so I won't spoil it by going into too many details except to sing the praises of this glorious veggie burger.

This one's a stunner from presentation — check out the cute garnish with the house-made pickle — to last bite.
The flavor is incredibly complex, and I thought that some sort of seed was in the patty. Looking at the description on the menu — "Brown Rice, Mushrooms and caramelized Onions, bound together with Cracked Wheat, and served with a Spicy Mayo" — I suspect it was the cracked wheat I was detecting. Topped with cheese and served on a hearty bun, this burger needs no condiments.
A couple notes about the Presentation Room: They're open for lunch and dinner Tuesdays and Thursdays (reservations: 754-7115), and the menu changes every 10 weeks. If that means you miss the burger, no worries: The creativity and level of skill reflected in this one dish promises more great things coming out of that kitchen.
