Last Friday, my coworkers and I moseyed on down to Broad Street to check out Three Angels Diner, the newest project from Bari's Jason and Rebecca Severs. They've got a great menu for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-lovers alike, and they've got great late-night hours (open until 2 a.m.!) I predict this will quickly become one of Memphis' favorite diners.
I started off with a cup of their soup special, mushroom bisque. It was perfect: creamy and rich with nice hearty bits of mushroom.
As for the main meal, Michael and Greg were predictably drawn to the burger selection, which includes three types of meat burgers and a veggie burger.
A straightforward kind of fellow, Michael opted for the traditional Diner Burger, with slaw, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, ketchup and an added slice of cheddar. Plus it came flanked by amazing homemade potato chips and a delightful little deviled egg.
Greg tackled the Colossus, a masterpiece of a 1/2 pound burger with bacon, melted smoked gouda, crispy fried onions, slaw, tomato, pickle, and garlic mayo. Truly amazing and served up just like the Diner Burger, with a solid helping of chips.
I changed things up a bit with the Pozole, which is slow-cooked pork with guajillo chiles and hominy, served with crispy tortillas, avocado, limes, radishes and cilantro.
We were all very impressed with our lunch — and the keen decor: pinball machines, old advertisements covering the tables, big orange couches and cool steel bar stools.
We finished off our visit with a tall banana milkshake made from their banana pudding and topped with whipped cream. Of course, that disappeared too quickly to be photographed. You'll just have to see it for yourself.
