Former city councilman E.C. Jones, immediately after hearing his son Chris Jones sentenced to 23 years for second-degree murder for a night-club shooting death last year, emerged from the Criminal Court courtroom, faced TV cameras and declared, “I am going to the election commission to pull a petition to run for City Mayor.”

Reportedly, Jones did indeed secure the petition. More news as it develops.

Why the eff not? Most of them running have been in jail or their kids in jail. Let's see: Halbert, Wharton, Lawler's kids. Ford (if he's running) OMG the list is long. Mongo--let's not even start. What's one more who can't control their own family, much less a city, to join in the fracas now known as the Mayoral race.

What's the old Hollywood saying, "Any publicity is good publicity" Maybe he's banking on name recognition and sympathy from those oppressed by the criminal justice system.
