Hi-top Fades Are Back

Posted by Hannah Sayle on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Yesterday was Presidents Day, but that doesn't mean good hair got to take the day off. On the contrary, some of the hippest hair was out on the streets, waiting for attention. Of course, once attention was paid, everyone got a little camera shy. But so it goes when you're a teenager with an amazing hi-top fade. Behold:

That's right, the hi-top fade you remember:

is officially back in action:
IMG_5683.JPGAs I was driving down Peabody yesterday, I saw these kids packed onto a curbside leather sofa, hanging out like a band waiting to be photographed. Of course, once I asked to take their photograph only two flat-top fops were willing to ham it up for the camera.

I'm particularly pumped about the two-toned coif — even more so because when I asked who did the dye job, he said it was his mom's handiwork. Sounds like a pretty hip lady.

We can only hope the dance comes back with the 'do:

Saw Kid n' Play open for Public Enemy at the Coliseum in 1989 a few days after one of Heavy D.'s dancers died flipping off some riser before the Indianapolis show. Heavy D. & The Boyz weren't on the bill, of course, but Kid n' Play and Digital Underground with a lil dancer named Tupac was.

Just slightly tangential, but that's what the high-top fade always recalls in my memory. These boys were but a glimmer in someone's eye!

Ooh. Much worse than a flip off a riser. RIP Trouble T Roy.
