The Last Lap(dance) for Platinum Plus?

Heads they win; tails they lose.

Posted by John Branston on Sat, Dec 9, 2006 at 4:00 AM

Memphis D.A. Bill Gibbons is confident that the, oh, millionth time will be the charm when it comes to closing down Memphis' most notorious strip joint. Memphis police raided and padlocked "Platinum Plus" and the "Tunica Caberet" late Friday night, charging club owners with drug possession, money laundering, and prostitution.

Indictments for the charges will be handed up on Monday, December 11,2006. The raid culminates a 23-month investigation involving the Memphis Police Department and the FBI.

Police arrested more than 75 people, officials said. No word on if they were strip-searched or not.

This is a sad day for the Memphis area. I think tourism will drop considerably. Support groups should be started to help the people affected by this. Thanks Jefbham

What a tragedy. After years of desperation by local law enforcement, they finally succeeded. Platinum Plus offered no more than any other bar establishment. You can go to your local bar and score drugs or women. Platinum was no different. I seriously doubt Platinum encouraged their dancers to perform illicit acts. Many probably chose to do it on their own to satisfy their own financial needs. Platinum was different in that it encourage involvement by it patrons. Many strip clubs you just sit there, and can otherwise be boring. Not Platinum. Very high energy, great crowds, and the best in entertainment. It is a said day. It looks like Memphis finally distorted the truth enough to shut down one of Memphis' great entertainment centers.

On the news last night, right after the PP story, was an afterthought, something about Memphis breaking last year's murder record. People are killing each other and the police spend nearly 2 years trying to shut down a strip club. Wow! Talk about mixed up priorities. And, on top of that now there are several hundred, five hundred I'd guess, people out of work and one of the city's top tourist attractions padlocked! If they succeed in seizing the property, what will they do with it. A restaurant? The Lone Star is closed and they tore down the Denny's across the street. Just another empty building in a dying part of town. Sure they need to get a handle on the drugs and other illegal activity, but pulling the plug on one of the thriving businesses in a struggling community, c'mon!!!!!!

One more thing... it was pretty cruddy to do this two weeks before Christmas. They claim to have been working on it for 23 months, another 2 weeks wouldn't have hurt anybody. Nobody really cares about the the dopers, they deserve it, but what about the honest, single, working mothers, struggling to take care of their children? Again, pretty cruddy two weeks before Christmas!

Darkness has fallen across the land. We cannot let this happen. Let us rally together with the cry...... "SAVE PLATINUM PLUS!!!!!" To everyone that has ever had a PLATINUM experience .....imagine never having it again!!! It is too painfull to imagine..."SAVE PLATINUM PLUS!!"

Its nice to know that the Memphis police are so concerned with our well being that they work hard to protect us from the sight of female flesh in a manner that the Purtians could be proud of. Nice to know that as America is flooded with immigrants, many of whom are illegal, and Al Qaeda sits up shop with impunity in many major American cities, that the Memphis police, and FBI, can devote over two years to a strip club investigation. Its time to reject both the lunatic left and reactionary right and vote Libertarian!

Gross, Get a Real job!! There's more jobs than selling yourself or Drugs, I hope this Nasty place stays closed, I know for sure people didn't come tour Memphis for this drug & prostitute infested place, That's a Real Joke!!!!

It is a sad day. First it was Danny's ... now PP. This will affect tourism in Memphis. I enjoy the casinos of Tunica, but without PP I will just gamble in Shreveport. I'm glad our tax dollars are at work.

It's so typical of Memphis and the Feds to close a predominantly white club filled with beautiful girls and to turn a "black eye, opps... I meant blind eye" to Babes, Black Tail Joint, Showgirls and the rest of the sleezy, smelly so called Men's clubs whose girls are street walking black prostitutes. Apparently PP wasn't greasing the political wheel's enought or the undercover cops with their cop mentality had their ego's hurt because the only way the could ever have a lap dance from a lady as fine as those at PP was to buy it.

i agree with alot of the comments that have been posted.memphis tn you need to worry more about your gang problem murder rate and your hookers walking up and down the streets.i think memphis tn has to many crooked fords in office and what about that willy boy memphis you should be so proud of your self in what you let your city come to now a days.i think that you popped the strip clubs becuz it was an easy target and you didnt have enough brains to catch the big fishes out there sad sad sad.at least it was in a controlled enviroment it wasnt wondering your wonderfull streets.

I would like to know why, in past years, King Willie would take an election campaign donation from the owner of platinum plus (I won't mention his name)

Danny's was running a prostitution ring and it is holy uncalled for to compare that to PP. That being said, strip club owners in Memphis seem to lack a real understanding of their liability for what takes place on their premises. The customers at PP constantly forcibly touched and struck the dancers and it was not only uncontrolled but permitted. Strip clubs in Memphis need to be made to understand that they are public places and the laws that govern acceptable behavior apply in their establishments as well. The mindset of having those laws eliminated while inside the club is what allowed the misconduct to reach proportions that ultimately closed it's demise.
