Edmund Ford and Rickey Peete In Court Wednesday

City Council members Edmund Ford and Rickey Peete are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in federal court on bribery charges.
The arraignment, at which the defendants will make their formal pleas, is set for 9:30 a.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge James Allen.
The government alleges that Ford and Peete took payoffs from lobbyist Joe Cooper in exchange for their support of a zoning change in a billboard case. The City Council split 6-6 on a vote to ask the two men to step down from their elected offices while under indictment, and both have continued to attend meetings.
