City Council administrator Lisa Geater said anyone who lives in District 8 can come by the council office on the fifth floor of City Hall and pick up forms. The council will appoint a successor within 30 days, or by July 1st. She said applications will be accepted until June 19th.
Peete resigned effective Friday, some six months after he was indicted on federal bribery charges in connection with a billboard zoning case.
His replacement will serve for the remainder of 2007. The replacement could also be a candidate for a full term in the October election, when all council seats and the mayor's job will be on the ballot. To run in the October election, candidates must get a petition from the Shelby County Election Commission.
