So That Was It! Herenton Dishes on That 2007 Dinner With A C Wharton

Posted by Jackson Baker on Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 2:11 AM

On the eve of his departure from the mayor's office he has occupied for 18 years, Willie Herenton talks turkey with the Flyer on the events of his tenure. Here Herenton divulges what it was that he and Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton talked about at Le Chardonnay when the subject was which one of them would run for city mayor that year. See more revelations in this week's Flyer cover story, The Exit Interview, on the street today and online Wednesday night at midnight.

WOW! The Mayor must think anyone who hears this part of the interview was born yesterday.

It might be VERY interesting to show this part of the interview to AC, and get his reaction.

I am so glad that our former school superintendent and now mayor has such an exemplary vocabulary, grasp of grammar, and an unmatched eloquence to go right along with his superhuman display of modesty.

Mayor, I also have known Steve Cohen for more than 30 years, and let me tell you, HE is not the a-hole here.

Am I drunk or is that not Wille's head with a bandana superimposed on the Napoleon poster behind him?
Great interview, JB---hope you brought your can of Glade Air Neutralizer because after all that heavy farting from the mayor it must've stunk. Bad.

I have worked with Cohen several times, and he IS a major asshole if you are a nobody. I hate Wille, but Cohen is no better. Pick a lesser of two evils!

Memphis Film BTS:
Hmmm, you wouldn't happen to work for that ad company (that Steve fired) that put out those ridiculously bad Tinker commercials? Just wondering.

I've known Steve Cohen for more than 30 years and I'm here to tell you -- Steve is NOT the "a**hole.
Mayor Herenton, on the other hand, IS A PERFECT 'A-HOLE!

Can we get a proctologist in here to make a determination?

Memphis Film BTS: Just want to clarify that I AM a nobody, and Cohen has never been anything but respectful, kind, helpful, and friendly to me.

But do you think he makes deals? I'm not sure if he made that clear or not.

Are we talking about the same Steve Cohen? Look, Cohen will be "respectful, kind, helpful, and friendly" when there is something in it for him. All other times he is an asshole. Willie has him pegged, and like me he has seen the side of Cohen when he isn't "On".

And we hear tonight that maybe Willie will not really be resigning? Who is the asshole here? (hint: It's NOT Steve Cohen)

How is AC Wharton's decision to run for Mayor a character flaw? Maybe King Willie does need to go back to school...

If I was a black person I would want Steve Cohen in congress. He has done more for the black people than he has ever done for white people. I don't know him personally but Willie Harrington will not help the blacks as much as they think he will. The only person he will help is himself as he always has done. Memphis has more crime now, bankrupted, less income over this 16 years period sense Willie Harrington has been in office. The pyramid, fairgrounds. coliseum and more are all now closed and their getting ready to close some our city owned golf courses. The golf courses are the only thing making a profit for Memphis. I think the guy is crazy.
