"I've got some news for you," says Ekundayo Bandele, the Hattiloo Theatre's founding executive director. I'd initially called to get some information about the Billie Holiday play Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill but he had information about Tuesday's City Council meeting when the vote will be taken on a resolution to approve $16-million in funding for a parking garage and a flood detention basin in Overton Square that is a crucial component of Loeb Properties' ambitious plan to develop the performing arts and entertainment district.

On Wednesday, October 12, Bandele and Playhouse on the Square founder Jackie Nichols collectively announced plans to move the Hattiloo from its current location in the Edge district to Overton Square as a part of the expansion.

"I'm going to take 200 people to that City Council meeting," Bandele said.

Shortly after our conversation Bandele sent out an email encouraging even more people to attend.

Next Tuesday, December 20th, please arrive in the City Council Chamber by 3p. Wear your Hattiloo tee-shirt. If you don't have one and plan on attending, email ferron@hattilootheatre.org and let us know your size; we'll have a shirt there waiting on you - and you get to keep it as a momento of thanks.
