Every semester, as director of the New York Studio Residency Program in Brooklyn, NY, from 2 to 4 exceptional students from Memphis College of Art (one of the 40 U.S. and Canadian art and design schools in the consortium) are selected to attend this Program of independent study in the arts. The roster of illustrious alumni from Memphis is too long to list here, but if you pay attention to them as they return to Memphis from New York and enlist them in public art projects and events, you will have made a major step in brightening up the arts in your great city (which I have visited and loved). The NYSRP alumni in Cincinnati and Calgary have formed vibrant nuclei of young artists - see them as examples. In Memphis' case, keep your eye on photographer Tommy Kha and multimedia activist artist CK Harrington, both, in my estimation, municipal treasures!
