Bike Lanes in Memphis?

BikeMemphis is reporting that Shady Grove is now partially striped and signed for bike lanes:

“I have ridden the new lanes from Yates to Wolf River Blvd. twice — I think the lanes are properly designed. Coming form someone who is mostly anti-bike lane, that is a huge compliment!”

O.J. Mayo Blows Up

The Memphis Grizzlies finished up what had to be the best 1-3 road trip in franchise history last night, falling to the Phoenix Suns 107-102. For the very young team, it was a week of competitive, spirited basketball notable for the dramatic emergence of rookie guard O.J. Mayo.

Marijuana Legalization Talk Tonight at Rhodes

Terry Nelson worked in law enforcement for more than 30 years, serving in the U.S. Border Patrol, the U.S. Customs Service, and the Department of Homeland Security. During his career, he participated in the seizure of more than 230,000 pounds of cocaine. Nelson retired from law enforcement in 2005 and soon after joined Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) because he believes the ongoing “War on Drugs” simply isn’t working. Nelson will give a presentation tonight at 8 p.m. in the Orgill Room of Clough Hall at Rhodes College.

Cohen, Blackburn, Alexander Win Big

Given all the dramatics of the presidential race and tightly contested races elsewhere, the easy victory of three incumbents might well have escaped proper notice. 9th District congressman Steve Cohen won big, so did 7th District congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, and so did U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander. A fourth incumbent, 8th District congressman John Tanner, was unopposed.

Addressing MPD

The City Council’s public safety and homeland security committee voted today to send a police residency resolution to the full council.

The resolution would allow police officers to live within 20 miles of the Shelby County line.

Divine Mafa Moves On

South Main’s Divine Rags plans to move to a new location in Saddle Creek early next week. They’ll be taking over the former Sharper Image space.

Owner Divine Mafa plans to keep renting the South Main space (COGIC owns the building), but may open a lounge there instead.
