Hispanic Business Owners Feel They’re Being Ignored By the MPD
Three Hispanic-owned businesses โ a clothing store called Urbano, the La Roca supermarket, and El Ranchito Taqueria โ were robbed in the Summer Avenue/Berclair area in mid-December and early January.
Thanks to surveillance video, the three business owners suspect the same man is responsible. But up until today, theyโve felt like the Memphis Police Department has been ignoring their pleas for help. This morning at Caminos de Michoacan Restaurant, those business owners (as well as media outlets and other Hispanic leaders from throughout the community) met with about 10 Memphis Police officers to demand answers.

Family Ties
There are juicy angles galore to Super Bowl XLIV. For the first time in 16 years, the top seeds from each conference will be playing for the Lombardi Trophy. For the second straight season, we have a team making its Super Bowl debut more than 40 years after the inaugural event. The New Orleans Saints will be the ninth different NFC representative in nine years and will try to become just the third NFC team in 10 years to win the championship.
But my favorite is the father-son angle.

The Grammys: Rootin’ for the Home Team
Tonight’s the night for making Grammy dreams come true. The awards show, celebrating its 52nd year, is the tentpole event for the music industry and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
Virtually every year has some kind of Memphis flavor. This year the connection comes from nominees MGMT, Robert Gordon, Justin Timberlake, Booker T. Jones, and Mavis Staples.

Tigers Lose to SMU, 70-60
Tiger coach Josh Pastner has emphasized all winter that thereโs no game his team is supposed to win, that particularly in this transition season, no opponent can be overlooked.
The SMU Mustangs shouldnโt necessarily be overlooked, but todayโs matinee was a game the Tigers were, indeed, supposed to win.
