After gracing our cover for Alex Greene’s story on Satellite Music Hall, Val, who splits her time between Brooklyn and the 901 when she’s not out globetrotting, graced us with her presence on the Memphis Flyer Podcast. After last year’s Owls, Omens and Oracles album, Val has released an EP of inspired covers that harken back to the American roots music that has always formed the basis of her music. “Smokestack” is a buzzing blues-rock rave up that expands her sound — as she said on the podcast, “I’m shredding!”
