Food assistance benefits will load onto EBT cards Monday, November 17th.ย
Benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) were halted on November 1. The shutdown of the federal government meant the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) had no access to its regular funds for the program.
The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) announced Monday that โTennessee SNAP recipients who received a partial November benefit will receive the remainder of their November benefit amount.โ
Hereโs what the agency said Tennesseans should expect:
โSNAP households that previously received partial benefits will have the remaining benefit amount added to their EBT card beginning Monday, November 17.
โHouseholds that have not yet received any November benefits should expect to receive their full benefit amount in the coming days.
โCustomers who typically receive benefits on the 18th, 19th, or 20th of the month will receive their November benefits on their usual date.
โAdditionally, December SNAP benefits will be issued in full on customersโ normal date.โ

The USDA had millions in supplemental SNAP funding for emergency situations like the shutdownm, but President Donald Trump fought efforts to use that money, effectively cutting off grocery funds for millions of Americans.ย
In Tennessee, Gov. Bill Lee refused to tap into the stateโs $2 billion rainy day fund to help the nearly 170,000 Tennesseans on the SNAP program. While on a state business trip to Asia, he said the state simply did not have the funding mechanism to load money onto EBT cards. Lee eventually released $5 million to temporarily help food banks.ย
