The Memphis Flyway opened at Tom Lee Park Friday.

The $10.4 million Flyway is a 220-foot-long, ADA-accessible elevated pathway that winds through tree canopies, over wetlands, and looks out over the Mississippi River. It is named for the Mississippi Flyway, a major North American migratory route for birds.

“I have a feeling we’re going to see thousands of photos taken from this spot in the years ahead: family pictures, proposals, visitors showing off Memphis to their friends, moments people will remember,” Memphis Mayor Paul Young said in a statement. “That is what great public spaces do. They create experiences that bring people together and help us see our city in a new way.”

The Flyway activates the south end of the park. It is part of the overall $61 million renovation project there.
