Eleven models will strut down a New York-style runway sporting exclusive threads during the Bridges 2012 Fashion Show.
The event is the first-ever fund-raising fashion show sponsored by Bridges, a nonprofit organization that seeks to advance racial, economic, and educational justice through building a community of leaders.
The fashion show will be part of the organization’s 90th anniversary celebration.
Yendry Alvord, a designer from Costa Rica based in Memphis, will be the show’s headliner. She’s contributing more than 20 designs hand-made for the event. Dresses, skirts, shoulder wraps, and swimwear will be among the apparel modeled at the show.
Alvord says the clothes are very feminine with a lot of lace, soft colors, and lightweight fabrics.
“My collection for this particular event is inspired by relaxing,” Alvord says. “The relaxing girl who’s going on vacation somewhere — definitely a girl on the go.”
There’s a pre-fashion show featuring looks from local boutiques Sachë, Style Junkie, and others at 7:30 p.m. A VIP cocktail party will serve as an intermission, and then models take the runway. An after-party outside in the Bridges amphitheater tops off the night.
“It doesn’t matter where you’re from, your socioeconomic background, [or] race, everyone can come together through fashion,” says Nikki Haynes, development coordinator for Bridges.
