Corey Mesler's Wish List

Posted By on Wed, Sep 14, 2011 at 3:59 PM

"This was the book that the literary world had been waiting for. It was an answer to questions we didn't even dare ask, questions we didn't know needed asking." — from "Publisher," a short story inside Memphian Corey Mesler's new collection of short stories, Notes Toward the Story & Other Stories (Aqueous Books).

He's been recently interviewed here, here, and here. What hasn't Corey Mesler been asked in an interview — ever? The author answered:

"I've never been asked who I want to star in a movie made from any of my books or what director. Here are my ready-made answers: Hope Davis; Campbell Scott; Emily Mortimer; Carey Mulligan; Rebecca Hall; Jake Gyllenhaal; Maggie Gyllenhaal; Peter Sarsgaard; Emma Stone; Paul Giamatti; Casey Affleck; Scarlett Johannson; and Martin Donovan. Directed by: Richard Linklater; Steven Soderbergh; Gus Van Sant; Sofia Coppola; Whit Stillman; or Hal Hartley."

Note to any or all of the above: If you'd like to reach Corey Mesler directly, tomorrow's a good time to do it. He'll be signing and reading from Notes Toward the Story & Other Stories and his poetry collection, Before the Great Troubling, at Burke's Book Store, the store he co-owns with his wife, Cheryl, on Thursday, September 15th, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The reading begins at 6 p.m. Plus, Mesler will be signing his new chapbook, The Heart Is Open.

Further note to any or all of the above: If you need a full list of Mesler's work, here goes.
