Re: “Memphis as a Model

A lot of good this new recruiting method is doing when someone like me is getting turned away by Memphis City Schools by mistake. I am a newly certified, highly qualified teacher in a high need area (special education.) I have a 3.9 graduate school GPA and I scored well above average on my Praxis tests, even receiving a score in the top 15th percentile for my PLT. I taught Kindergarten for Memphis City Schools 10 years ago and I have an extensive background in special education. I received an email from MCS telling me that I didn't "meet their minimum qualifications." However, after multiple phone calls and multiple emails, I can't get anyone to tell me WHY I was turned away. It also takes MONTHS to get through the hiring process. No wonder MCS has to choose the "leftovers." By the time they get around to hiring people because of this ridiculous process, there's nobody left. And I wonder how many others like me have been turned away by mistake?
