Re: “Mayor: Memphis Situation Different from New Orleans on Confederate Statues

I think this thread could use some much needed diversity!
I'm thinking 60+YO white men who don't live in Memphis (where the history statues are located) who voted Trump AND are HUGE lovers of history should speak up. Extra points if your retired MPD living in Lakeland! We need your insight and heart (!) our history could get all squashed without YOU! Please represent your demographic before it's too late (literally).

Re: “Mayor: Memphis Situation Different from New Orleans on Confederate Statues

This Mayor is a "basics" kinda guy. A visionary, bold leader he is not. While Nashville moves to build a light rail system Jimmy's vision is to pave the roads more often - laudable yes, but inspiring not quite. Jimmy will run around town cutting ribbons at openings that were planned during previous administrations. Hit the snooze button - this city is on auto-pilot while Jimmy's in charge.

Re: “Q&A: Council Chairman Talks Lunch, Travel, and Investing in Memphis

We can not be a successful city without a working public transit system. I should be able to get from UofM or Crosstown to Central Station frequently, safely and in about 30 mins. Tomorrow's cities will not be dependent on cars. As Nashville builds light rail; we debate ham and cheese sandwiches.

Re: “Artists Wanted to Complete Public Projects Downtown

Chris - I also hope they end up lighting the overpass near Central Station as well. Look at this example in Birmingham Al : http://links.thisiscolossal.com/post/57712…

Re: “Q&A: Railgarten Partner Talks Parking, Shipping Containers, and Getting Permanently Open

This is a classic NIMBY move. What I don't understand is why certain people misread their market. Charlie Ryan, for example, has used his influence over the years to shut down anything that would make Cooper Young attractive to young people; light rail , bike lanes, hip new concepts must all not happen because he has a mind set that is out of touch with how and why young people are attracted to living in urban cores. He sits on vast sums of undeveloped property for many years and nothing ever happens to it. What's he building a retirement community? No, it's young people who want to live in Midtown and they love concepts like Loflin and Railgarten. Don't like noise and crowds? Maybe downtown and midtown are not for you.

Re: “Artists Wanted to Complete Public Projects Downtown

We need to explore artful lighting for underpasses. It activates the space even at night.
