Re: “Church of God in Changeover

This is the second year that I have attended the Holy Convocation. One thing I have notice is that although individuals who service us at the hotels and the restaurants are friendly, I get a sense that we are tolerated instead of welcomed. I know it is a strain on the locals to have some 70,000 additional people converge on your city almost overnight but Memphis is the place the members of the COGIC all over the world call home. Now please do not get offended by this next comment but the only thing that keeps us in Memphis is the rich heritage that we have engrained their but trust me when I say that Memphis is not your number 1 vacation spot. The area needs some help BAD. I am from the state of New York (not NYC) and if my city had the opportunity obtain 20 to 30 million dollars in 1 week, I would just humbly accept and try to accommodate, but by reading the blogs from various websites, it seems that the locals do not want us there. Now I hear we are there until 2010. I respect the COGIC history and the significance of the city of Memphis, but I welcome going to another city because it seemed like, especially this year that the city was not ready for us. We have had 100 convocations there and it seems to always catch the hotels and restaurants by surprise. Oh and by the way I left my server at Perkins on Poplar ave a $15.00 tip which was well over the suggested 15% even though he was new and didn’t know the menu. And for all you "SAINTS" who say that you don’t tip because you tithe to GOD, you are an embarrassment not only to the COGIC but to Christendom as a whole, COME ON leave a tip, if your that broke when you came to the convocation you probably should have stayed home or went by Kroger’s to get some bologna to last you the week. !!!!!. Now for those of you who are not actively involved in the church and are on the outside looking in and probably haven’t picked up a Bible in about 20 yrs, I’m here to inform you that EVERY BODY IN THE CHURCH ARE NOT CHRISTIANS AND JUST BECAUSE YOU GO TO CHURCH THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CHRISTIAN, you need to understand and embrace that so you are not always so stunned when you meet, dare I say it, a hypocrite. Where else would hypocrites be, in the bar? NO, there’s no need to fake it there. For all you outsiders, pick up a bible sometime between now and the time you die so you can have a vague idea of biblical concepts and principles and understand that Christianity is only a set of beliefs to practice but they will not change you on the inside, it goes a lot deeper than that but I wont go into it because a lot of you are already confused and making uninformed guesses and conclusion and this would just send your head spinning so I’ll leave that alone, go to the dollar store and buy a Bible, then we’ll talk because some of the analogy I here from some of you so called educated scholars is just BOGUS. Yes the women wear big hats and the men wear nice suits, but it is amazing how unless the people of God look like hell warmed over there not really Christians, get over yourself people. The COGIC addresses social issues also, were any of you, that posted comments on this site at the COGIC Charities banquet which was about $200.00 a plate and ALL the money went toward charities and did any of you donate to COGIC missions? Probably not. If you do not contribute to the solution don’t complain about the problem. The issues of AIDS and HIV have been and yet is addressed by the church. The COGIC is a worldwide ministry and the issue of HIV AIDS is a worldwide problem not just a Memphis problem so before posting your conclusions on what the church is not doing, conduct your research, then come back with a well informed, educated argument. Visit and A $900,000 salary for a pastor? Well West Angeles is 24,000 strong so I would expect Bishop to have a large salary and I have been to his church and it is most definitely not located in Beverly Hills, but Bishop Blake and West Angeles contributes so much to COGIC charities and to the city of LA and not to mention their efforts in Africa, So if a man dedicates his life and church to helping other people all over the world, unless you have that kind of impact and contribute at least a fraction as much as that ministry does, you probably don’t have much right to complain about where he lives and what he drives and how much me makes, study up on the man before jumping to water cooler gossip conclusions. Help me out Memphis, how much has your precious Elvis foundation contributed to helping the epidemic of AIDS and HIV among African Americans?.................................. don’t all jump at once; yea he didn’t even care that much for black folks. So Memphis, if you are tired of the millions of dollars we COGIC folk pump into your economy year after year, sign a petition and take it to city hall and I believe Atlanta or Detroit would be more than happy to receive us and our money, but like I have always been taught, nothing in life is free, so for 1 week out of the year, deal with the hats, deal with the traffic, deal with the crowds although It may cost you a few late nights and some extra time in traffic and more headaches for the waiters and waitress, once that cool 20 to 30 million hit your city coffers I’m sure city hall will soon forget the 1 measly week we inconvenienced the great technological, well educated, advance, modern, hospitable, number 1 place to live, HA! City of Memphis. You wont miss the water until the well runs dry. GO MEMPHIS :/
