Re: “Yahoo on Iverson: Sad But True (And a Bit About Boozer)

I don't like the group-think that's being passed off as informed analysis. Most of these points are simply regurgitated arguments that critics have been offering since AI entered the league. Yet, despite those arguments he's still a hall of fame player (along with Kobe and Shaq) that defined the game in his era. Right now, like all players, he's on the decline, but does that mean he's a shell of his former self? I say no. The only evidence to suggest he is, is based on a single season playing with a team that had a number of problems, completely unrelated to AI. The season prior to last, he was top three in scoring and top ten in assists and top ten in minutes played. He led the nuggets to their first fifty win season in forever without a serviceable point guard or any depth in the front court. Now the sports writers would like to re-write history and suggest that Billups was the single significant factor in that team being successful this past season. The fact is Nene missed nearly the entire season with AI due to his cancer treatments. JR Smith was in the coaches doghouse having just killed his best friend in a car accident and Anthony Carter was their starting point guard. Clearly Billups was an upgrade over AC and JR Smith's emergence was a long time coming. All these bottom feeder teams have nothing to lose by acquiring AI and everything to gain. He has a chip on his shoulder the size of the Palace and he's going to drag whatever team he's on to contention just like he did in '01 when you guys predicted the Sixers wouldn't even make the playoffs with Iverson. AI shouldn't go to Memphis because Memphis is delusional if they think they have two guards that should be starting ahead of him. He shouldn't go to Miami because it's just like Detroit, they're going to get worse before they get better and he'll get blamed just because of his presence whether he plays 15 minutes or 40. The Clips are a good idea because the players there respect AI and want to play with him. It's also a major market and AI would thrive in an environment so competitive with Kobe in his backyard.
