Re: “Partnership Hopes to Return Mid-South Fair to 'Glory Years'

A little math says the MidSouth Fair started in 1856. The Civil War started 6 years later, but did not stop The Fair.

Whatever threat "Gunfire and roving bands of foul-mouthed urban youth" are in your mind, they cannot factually be greater than that of General Sherman's Union Army.

But we all know what you're using the word "urban" as code for, don't we?

Re: “Tennessee Tourism Broke Records (Again) Last Year

Imagine how much more Memphis could have made than Nashville if tourism to Beale wasn't actively suppressed with Beale Street bucks?

Not at the Fairgrounds: not the Fair.

You want the Fair to be like it was? Have the Fair where you used to have it.

It really is that simple.

Re: “Mayor Strickland Joins Coalition of Mayors Vowing to End Bigotry, Extremism in Their Cities

*joins coalition to stop bigotry*
*sends cops to ram crowd of protesters against bigotry with their cars*
*arrests 7 people for exercising their Constitutionally protected rights to protest and assembly*
*Gives angry press release denying allegations of complicity with bigotry*
*Smugly laughs at how stupid the public is not to see through his #brilliantatthebullshit leadership style*

Re: “Angry Mayor Responds to Critics on Statue Removal

Since the Charlottesville attack, all Confederate monuments pose an imminent threat to the safety of local citizens as targets for Alt-Right violence.

Imminent threat of physical harm and loss of life has different implications than merely being "offended."

However, our weak mayor has to decided to take this call to duty as a personal insult, as opposed to an opportunity to be the hero that helped heal the scars of racism still festering in our city.

Re: “Meet the Tennessee Lawmakers Who Think Running Over Protesters Should Be Protected

@ glen

It's not "due care" it's "do care" as in, you only have to not run people down like animals in the street if you "do care" but you have the option to "don't care."

Because it's important that people who are considering constitutionally protected civil protest fear for their lives, you know, to shut them up and keep them suppressed.

Gotta Make America Great Again, and by "again" they mean how it was before Civil Rights.

Re: “Demonstrators Ready to Take Down Nathan Bedford Forrest Statue

Nice to see the traditional "VERE ARE YOUR PAPERS!?!?" tactic is still in force when intimidating people out of activism.

I was unaware you needed ID to walk the streets of a free country, but hey, maybe we ain't free. How does a park with no fence have a closing time? There's a couple guys who sleep in that park that would be shocked to learn about that curfew.

I guess now is a bad time to mention that putting up statues to people who lose wars in the historic equivalent of a participation trophy, isn't it?
