Re: “Confederate Heritage Groups Vow to Fight Park Name Changes

Charlie Eppes, you confuse secession with war. Lincoln's war was not about slavery. He said so repeatedly. Lincoln was the one who decided to go to war over the secession of the Confederate States. In doing so, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Arkansas also voted to secede. After invading Missouri and Kentucky, those two states also attempted to leave the Union as well.

Even in 1863, he offered not to issue the Emancipation Proclamation - that freed nobody - if the Confederate states would just return to the Union.

Even so, the divisions between North and South go back to forming of the Union and had to do with issues going back to the English Civil War. It came down to, as the Mississippi declaration of reasons for secession states, the South lost control of the DC government, and now the North was free to implement its agenda of economic domination of the South. To escape that, the South seceded. To prevent her escape, the North went to war.

There are monomaniacs who will not believe Lincoln's war was about anything other than slavery. That is because, as for as any other moral justification for what Lincoln's armies did, they have nothing.
