Re: “Promenade Stand

Jen --
You may not have understood - Friends for Our Riverfront is for revitalizing that public promenade, not leaving it the way it is. All that deferred maintenance and improper use of the land is not their doing.

They're just trying to save the land to become a wonderful connecting link in a system of parks along a spectacular riverfront. That's actually what most cities worldwide are doing, but in many cases the cities are having to buy the land and restore brownfields to reach that end. Here, if we keep it a public promenade/public commons, it belongs to the citizens.

If someone wants to build a hotel, there's plenty of private land nearby they can buy.

Re: “New Plan, New Task Force Coming for Riverfront

New plan, maybe. New group in charge, alternative truth. Retired Directors Club, the same group that has botched things up since Mayor Herenton was in office, make up most of Strickland's task force.
According to Friends for Our Riverfront,"10 of the 17 Task Force members are either on the RDC, were on the RDC, are related to members of the RDC, work for the RDC, worked for the RDC, or work for people who are on the RDC."

Re: “Bass Pro Gets Many "Ayes" and One Nasty "Nay"

Who gets the credit for that lodge design and "welcoming" boulevard? I see Tom Marshall's name on the drawing, but at the beginning of the presentation to City Council, I think he gave credit to Johnny Morris as "one of the most creative architects and visionaries of our time." Isn't John Morris the founder of Bass Pro? Is he also an architect? Who gets the credit for this?
