Re: “Rhodes President Condemns 'Hate-Filled Essay' Written by a Student

I worked at Georgetown for 13 years and every freshman class had a few children who were not ready for prime time education. They sprayed swastikas in elevators, hung bananas at the Black House, tore down the Hannuka menorah, and tipped over the life-sized creche. Every year one of more acts were perpetrated by young men whose political bent could only be shown under the cover of darkness.

Of course, their identities were exposed eventually, and they were disciplined. To my knowledge none were expelled. A cynic will huff and suggest Daddy's money bought them an elite education. But the real reason they remained is no one NEEDS a liberal arts humanities education MORE that adolescent boys who think what they believe matters more than what other people feel and think. Sending them home means nothing to them. Scheduling them to work with the Center for Social Justice Reseearch and Teaching where they do service projects with day laborers, kids in Don Bosco Christo Rey, and serve with students who do not mirror their beliefs changes them. There is no substitute for content knowledge which Master Pietrangelo sorely lacks.

Re: “Watergate II

Geez, everyone in in WH has lawyered up, and Jared has very exprensive attorneys. No one in DC would take on 45 as a client, but he did ask. These are not my opinions, but facts. There are senate and house committees and the Mueller team investigating 45 and his crew for all manner of issues including obstruction of justice. Again, not opinion. Fact.

Randy isn't wrong. You just don't like real facts.
That alleged health care act wasn't voted on today.
There is no wall.
The courts have not upheld much the administration has done.
The claim that 45 has the beat brain and best words is verifiably laughable.
You can clap to keep Tinkerbell alive as long as you want. That light is fading fast.

Re: “Memoir chronicles the life and times and music of Jim Dickinson

In 1964 a classmate asked if I would join a new club he wanted to start at Messick for people who liked folk music. After he persuaded the principals we really needed this new activity, we met after school to discuss new records, learn songs, and listen to local performers. And that is how I first encountered Jim Dickinson -- sitting in a circle at Messick as he played his guitar. Later I would hear him at The Bitter Lemon, usually with Sid and Jimmy. I left Memphis in 1975 and had no idea what Jim had done until my brother-in-law gave me It Came From Memphis for Christmas.

I never forgot meeting Jim or hearing him. I look forward to reading his book, which arrived in my mail today. Memphis was a special place to grow up, and it was wonderful go be in the presence of so many talented people.
