Re: “Free Golf at Overton Park?

Here's an idea I haven't yet seen offered: let the 9-hole courses operate normally between now and either the Tuesday following Labor Day. At that point, close them. Maintain them, but only at a level where you can return to regular maintenance and reopen them next spring. they can be reopened next spring - say, about April 15 or May 1. Do the same thing with all but one or two of the 18 hole courses, closing the rest about November 1 or November 15, reopening around March 15. Anybody who knows anything about golf course management will tell you that the real waste in labor cost and maintenance is in keeping the greens mowed and the roughs trimmed for daily play during the late fall and early spring when NO ONE is playing. Even the major country clubs may see only 15 -20 rounds in an entire month in a January like the one we had this year. The savings from this plan could be enough to keep all the courses open.
