Re: “Happiness & Sadness: Project: Motion's eMPHasis on Blue emphasizes the obvious

Judging by the lack of comments on the actual dancing in this show, I feel compelled to write something myself. Everyone is encouraged to form their own opinions and conclusions, but I think anyone reading this review might be more interested in the performances rather than the sound bites introducing the work. While he does mention an assembly of "great talent" (which I can confirm), there is no mention of the depth and quality of movement and exploration of modern dance from the popular home-grown dance collective.

I have seen the show and it is bursting at the seams with liveliness and fresh, sometimes haunting, perspectives on familiar themes. Your old favorites are still with Project:Motion as well as many new faces and guest artists from seasons past. Watching this video clip speaks volumes more to me than the actual review. I walked away from this show reeling over the sensory experience and enjoyed mingling with my fellow attendees after the show--sharing thoughts, interpretations, and utmost enthusiasm for the next project from this local favorite.

These video tidbits captured from the show (even taken out of context) still intrigue me. For those of you who haven't seen it, treat yourself to a night of live art. For those who have seen it, I've heard there will be a brand new solo performance included this weekend. As someone in the Memphis community who enjoys many forms of art and specifically dance, this show has something for all ages. I will certainly be in attendance to get one more taste before these lovely performers add eMPHasis on Blue to their ever-inspring repertoire.
