Re: “MATA's Moment of Truth

My family and I ride public transportation here in Memphis everyday. We depend on it to get to school, work, medical appointments, grocery trips, everything. I've been doing this for over 2 years now and it's not getting any better. The entire system needs an overhaul. MATA's leadership should have to ride the bus everyday and depend on it the way real people have to. I think if they had to deal with the innumerable problems from the CUSTOMER'S perpective, it would greatly change how MATA does business. If they want to increase ridership they could start with the buses running at least until 11pm, 7 days a week. Why is Sunday after 6 like a curfew for the working poor? What's taking so long with real-time bus arrival information? Everybody's got a cell phone, but we STILL have no idea when the bus is coming, or IF it's coming at all. I say do away with neigborhood "loops". A properly integrated grid system just makes SENSE for most of the Memphis metro area. Express routes could be used for longer distances and specific destinations like the Airport, FedEx, Wolfchase, and Baptist East Hospital. I'm sick of all the talk and political promises to improve this system, yet nothing is being done about it, except wasting more money on research and excuses why MATA needs more money, to do more research. Memphis can't afford a light rail system right now. FINE, just fix the system we do have in place. I swear I've never seen such widespread incompetence within one organization! Complaints are not addressed properly, and WE the riders, (the CUSTOMERS) are treated like second class citizens. I don't care why the bus system doesn't work like it should, I just want it fixed. No more excuses MATA, enough is enough!
