Re: “Food Fight

In our public school district, the kids don't even get the 20 cent hot dog. The food vendor serves "Italian Dunkers" which are the white bread hot dog BUN, with 1.5 ounces of cheese product on top and served with a container of tomatoe sauce to dunk it in. I have a picture of a 3rd grader's tray where in addition to the "Italian Dunker" just described, she had a milk. No fruit. No vegetable. Nothing else at all. Wish I could paste it here. As I had lunch with my child that day and watched this other third grader, she never even opened the plastic container of tomatoe sauce. She ate about half the bun and drank the milk. That's what our tax dollars bought her for lunch. I've been trying to bring this issue to the forefront for three years, but with no success. I just keep taking pictures and writing letters and sending packed lunches with my kids. Though so many children don't have that option.
