Since the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is virtually identical with the Pileated Woodpecker, which is a very common bird, how the heck does anyone know the difference? They both make oblong holes for nests, both have red crests, and are both black & white in essentially the same patterns. How do you tell thyem apart?
