Re: “The "Movies" List: Time Travel

I expect so much more from someone who is a supposed expert in the movie field. Quite simply you choose some poor movies and your research skills are not up to the standards of a person who is a guest on the highly respected Chris Vernon show.

Your list:
Final Countdown
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Time Bandits
The Terminator
12 Monkeys

My comments:

The Final Countdown. Very good selection and should make the top five of any list. However, the Navy jets were F-14s not F-16s. The F-16 is an Air Force fighter. You should know this and if you didn’t it is easily researched.

Bill and Ted…Really? A terrible movie with horrible actors. Just because you got your High School History teacher to play the movie is more of a reflection of her teaching ability than a example of this being a movie that should ever be watched. No wonder your generation is so messed up. I still call Socrates So-CRATES. Just because it makes people mad.

Time Bandits…Again Really? Just because Sean Connery is in a movie doesn’t make it watchable. That was another b list movie made by B list actors and reviewed by B list reviewers. Worst choice on your list and you put it number 3.

Terminator…Can’t really argue but you are right. You should have chosen T2. Much better movie.

12 Monkeys…Yes! Good choice.

You got 1 solid choice out of five. 20% from someone who got an “A” from Mrs. Carter? I skipped her class daily and got a “C”. What does that say about the quality of the education system, I am not sure but your list is really bad.

My List:
5. Groundhog Day- Bill Murray vs. Keanu Reeves?
4. T2 -Simply one of the best movies ever.
3. Highlander -Much better choice and Sean Connery gives a better performance.
2. 12 Monkeys I agree, great movie even if Brad Pitt is in it.
1. Butterfly Effect -Amazing movie on so many levels.

Re: “Three Lessons from the Penn State/Sandusky Affair

Coach Paterno and the entire administration had a decision to make in 1998. Do the right thing or force Coach Sandusky to resign. They chose resignation for the good of the football program. In other words, they sacrificed Sandusky and that first known child for football. When Sandusky formed his charity for “At Risk Youths” read “unlimited number of easy targets” they choose to look the other way for the good of the football program and sacrificed an untold number of children on the altar of football. When he was caught showering with a child, they choose to look the other way for the good of the football program and added another sacrifice to the football gods. During this time, Coach Paterno, the all-knowing deity of Penn State who enjoyed the fruits from his worshipers until of course it was time to sacrifice him, the man who caught Sandusky red handed and the rest of the administration on the altar of football. If everything you saw Saturday felt empty and dirty that is because it was. It was a sham and a distraction to keep us from realizing the truth, Penn State in particularly and the Big Ten generally is not the moral compass that guides the NCAA, it is in fact as heartless, soulless, greedy, disgusting, corrupt, perverted and deviant as any shady pimp selling his whores to the highest bidder. Coach Sandusky can be forgiven of his sins by the God above and maybe by a few mortals below. Penn State can be forgiven and truly gain our respect for putting standards, morals and integrity above money is if they put their god to death. Shut down the football program; make things right with those who have been abused and focus on being a real leader in the NCAA. Until then, they will gather at Beaver Stadium on Saturday game day in the fall, worship a false god and cast dispersions on the SEC for not having a graduating rate of 87%.

Re: “U2: 40

Let me get this straight. You have exactly one friend in this thread, Pam, and you choose to mock her and compare her list to a couple of lame add on sceens in two over hyped movies? Not a very good use of the Force, young Jedi Wannabe.

I have spent countless hours trying to finish my U-2 top 40 list and I think I finally have it. Of course, I followed all of your "so called rules", which ended up changing the top 10 around a little but here goes for YOUR viewing pleasure.

1-40 in this order:

I thought for fun and to encourage a spirited debate I would include my top 40 Justin Timberlake songs. I chose to include anything he has recorded just to make it a open season on his career. So here goes:

1-40 in this order:

WOW! Amazing but true. Neither one has ever recorded anything noteworthy and they BOTH suck equally! I think that sums up how much respect I have for Bono, Edge, the rest of the boys in the band who have no cool names, Justin and Greg their biggest fan!

Re: “Chin Music

why didn't he ask Justin Timberlake to help out with a song or two?

Re: “The Movies List: PG-13 Action

Finally a list that will make your Mama proud. You have a good solid list of movies. Maybe you came to your senses or maybe I encouraged you to dig deep and do some good work. Either way, nice list.

I'm sure you did your research and were overwhelmed trying to rank such movies like: Armageddon, The Austin Powers Trilogy, Cast Away, Dumb and Dumber, Independence Day, Raising Arizona, The Sixth Sense and Zoolander. But you did miss Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, Waterboy, 50 First Dates and The Love Guru staring Justin Timberlake.
