Re: “Shelter in the Storm

@John Chappelow, you find my comments to be ignorant and that I am a cynic because I gave a different perspective? I also see you chose not to comment about the No-Kill initiative in Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and East Baton Rouge Parish. Tompkins County is full and taking owner surrenders by appointment. Just today there was a posting by the No-Kill organization in my area that asked it's 5200 facebook fans to make it a habit of donating $5 every Friday to it's cause. That's a potential $1.2M if they all form that habit. Oh the shelter they pull from impounded less than 700 animals last year.

Re: “Shelter in the Storm

Before local government considers mandating a No-Kill initiative, they need to look at both the pros and cons of this movement. You will never hear of the failures that No-Kill experiences, like Philadephia, Indianapolis, Los Angeles. The you will not hear about the overcrowdings like in Tompkins, Reno, and yes even Austin who recently tried to transfer animals to a kill shelter in Houston to help alleviate that issue. Then there is the cost of such a shelter. Research the "successful: communities of No-Kill and you will find organizations that operate in the millions of dollars at a loss.
Just do your research Memphis. Be sure of what you are committing yourself to. You can do better, but you don't have to sign up for something that isn't honest about itself.…
