Re: “Failing the Test

I am Michael's brother so I will admit from the get go that I am not impartial but this decision reeks.
First, all of his life Michael has supported the Democratic party in East Tennessee. This no easy feat. East Tennessee is so Republican that if Tennessee went Democratic in a presidential election, East Tennessee would probably try to secede rather than support a Democrat. Knowing that the expedient thing to do if he wanted to have a political future would be to become a Republican, Michael still didn't switch from the Democratic party.
Secondly, What type of world do we live in were we are only judging our candidates by a letter next to their name? If Democrats our so powerful in Memphis why not let Michael run in the primary and let the voters decide if his past voting record is an issue? Are they so afraid that Michael would be so persuasive a candidate that he would win over their objections?

I hope that Michael has the courage to run as an independent and wins. In this situation he would not be beholden to the Democratic machine in Shelby county and might possible be able to accomplish good things for the people of Memphis.
