Re: “AGs Want Help to Block Robocalls

About time...I mean we have politicians making laws covering everything under the sun....but laws are irrelevant if no one is enforcing them and that is EXACTLY what is happening with the Do Not Call laws. Personally I say the FCC needs an app for iPhone and Android and then they need to force the telephone service providers to be part of the solution. You can place illegal sales calls without phone numbers.

Re: “"There Are No Bootstraps" — Q&A with Memphis poverty report author Elena Delavega

There are some concepts in this article that I wouldn't argue with. Of course there are many others concepts and key areas of discussion that Ms. Delavega completely leaves out despite writing a 2000+ word article. Of course to try and reply to a 2000+ word article in the comments section would also be too long. So I will simply say that there are two sides to every story and this article definitely covered one of those sides (and only one of those sides) in great detail. The question is who will write the other and would the Memphis Flyer publish it?

Re: “Gun Fight

I think its more than a bit misleading to say, "The NRA stood firm against any kind of gun reform after a gunman shot and killed 17 people in a Florida high school two weeks ago." The NRA has never used those words. They have said that they are not willing to support gun laws that are unlikely to stop criminals and/or insane people but will definitely punish and restrict the rights of sane, law-abiding people. Those are two very different things.

Re: “State Officials Vote to Keep Bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest at Capitol

He was a complicated man...I am not saying he worthy of a statue or a park...but he was definitely different. I mean here's a guy who went from a slave trader and a general whose troops massacred black enemy soldiers (even if he didn't order it though he may have)...to swinging the other direction where he was an advocate for civil rights for African-Americans. Again not saying the statues should stay or go....but if only more people would reform their views like him our country would be a much better place. If the statue stays up I say his whole story should be told...a plaque with the Fort Pillow massacre put up. A plaque describing the slave trading history of Adams Ave. Put up a plaque telling his involvement in both setting up the KKK as well as him ending the local KKK. Maybe surround the statue with historic plaques stating all the bad things he did...and I am sure he did some good things as well...so put some of those up as well.

Re: “MPD Spends Over $55K on Overtime to Man Rallies, Protests Last Month

Thanks FUNKbrs...how did no one else come up with such a simple solution. Whenever we encounter a group of angry riotous criminals who intend to break the law and destroy public or private property...we should just get rid of whatever has them angry. Satiate the protestors before they have a chance to do the damage....brilliant! Uh...with only a few small problems...what if the KKK threatened to graffiti or destroy an MLK statue? Do we take it down as well? Or are you the final arbiter of which mob groups we should satiate?
Hmm...sounds like a solid plan...what could go wrong?
